During pregnancy enormous physical, chemical and emotional changes take place over a relatively short period of time. The body has to get used to carrying up to 20lb/10kg of baby, waters and placenta, which can impose great physical strain on the organs, tissues, joints and ligaments of the body. In order for the pregnant body to adapt to all these changes it has to find new ways to walk, sit and sleep resulting with new aches and pains arising.
This often results in pain in the lower back/pelvis/hips which can be eased with Osteopathic treatment. Your Osteopath can also help improve pelvic alignment to help facilitate an easier birth.
Occupational injuries account for many millions of working days lost each year. No matter whether your work is in the office or outside on the land you need to be able to cope with the individual demands made on your body by the style of work you do. In the office where desk work is common, there are the dangers of ‘computer hump’ and ‘carpal tunnel syndrome’, whilst frequent telephone use affects the neck and shoulders causing headaches neck pain etc.
Manual work inevitably carries the inherent risk of injury caused by heavy and often awkward lifting, over-stretching, and periods of prolonged bending causing back and disc injuries, sciatica, and muscle strains.
Those who drive for a living need to be aware of their driving position as it affects not only their back, neck and shoulders but also can affect hips, knees and feet. Ask an osteopath for advice on the correct driving position for you and any exercises which may help.
The term sciatica describes the symptoms of leg pain and possibly tingling, numbness or weakness that originates in the lower back and travels through the buttock and down the large Sciatic nerve in the back of the leg.
Sciatica is not a medical diagnosis in and of itself – it is a symptom of an underlying medical condition.
There are several causes of sciatica including nerve root compression in the lumbar spine. It is important to diagnose the condition accurately in order to treat it properly. Your Osteopath will be able to tell you the cause and set a treatment plan for you.
JWosteopathy uses only diagnostic and treatment methods based on proven scientific research and your first consultation will include a detailed case history and thorough examination as well as a comprehensive explanation of findings so you can rest assured your health is in the right hands.
